Toward a New Paradigm for the Study and Treatment of Cardiac Disorders

A significant clinical breakthrough has recently been reported at Rambam Health Care Campus as part of an international research effort, where a multidisciplinary team headed by Dr. Lior Lev-Tov, head of the Functional Neurosurgery unit and Dr. Amir Minerbi, Director of the Institute for Pain Medicine and a Senior Lecturer at the Ruth & Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, demonstrated rapid elimination of opioid addiction using a non-invasive, MRI-guided focused ultrasound approach. The treatment, which targets brain regions associated with addiction and reward mechanisms, was completed in approximately 20 minutes and resulted in an immediate and dramatic reduction in opioid dependence.
