Why This Center Matters
Thematic Workspaces
Developing new solutions to unmet medical needs is a lengthy process. No one has a better understanding of such needs than the clinicians that face them on a daily basis. Ideas for potential resolutions often arise directly in the clinics, yet clinicians often lack the expertise, time or resources to move them forward. Similarly, universities excel at pushing the boundaries of science and technology, but relationships between such progress and real-world needs are often abstract, sometimes leading to unrealistic understanding of real-world clinical challenges.
The Wolfe center aims to bridge these gaps by providing spaces for discussions, ideation, for grounding and calibrating expectations of clinicians, scientists and engineers and importantly for joint R&D activities. It offers resources in terms of experts and equipment to explore potential solutions, create prototypes, test them in clinical settings and ultimately move them to world at large. In a nutshell, it provides an exciting “playground”, an environment that encourages daring moves away from well-trodden clinical or academic paths.
Global Impact Through Local Innovation
The Wolfe center is a unique endeavor on a national and possibly international scale: One in which a major health care center and a leading technological university created this exciting playground, through considerable resource investment, for engaging entrepreneurial-minded physicians, health care professionals, scientists, engineers, students and local high-tech hubs. This investment was made with a deep conviction that it will drive innovation that will have a global impact. Given its core principle – closing the need-develop-test loop within an alliance between the Technion, a world-class leading technological university, and the Rambam Health Care Campus, both with extraordinarily successful histories of medical innovation, how could it not?
The Technion Advantage
The Technion's participation brings extraordinary depth to this partnership. The Technion is one of the world's leading technological universities with incredibly strong and diverse academic units from medicine, through chemistry, physics, and biology, electrical, mechanical, chemical, biomedical and biotechnological engineering, computer, data and, material sciences all the way to architecture and mathematics. It has recently launched the ambitious Technion Human Health Initiative (THHI) – a groundbreaking multidisciplinary research from aiming to address the grand health challenge of human health.
The Rambam Health Care Campus Advantage
The Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa is the largest hospital of Northern Israel, where it serves it's 2.5 million residents. Furthermore, it has a long history of successful clinical innovation, and views the promotion of innovation as one of its key missions for the next decades.
Strengthening Northern Israel's Resilience, Growth, and Innovation Ecosystem
The Wolfe Center’s location provides unique advantages: proximity to the Technion campus and its Faculty of Medicine, proximity to the thriving Matam high-tech park, and connections with the Yokneam industrial zone. This geographical location forms a triangle of academic excellence, medical expertise, and industrial innovation. Looking beyond this specific triangle, the Haifa bay healthcare ecosystem includes some of Israel's leading healthcare R&D centers, hospitals and universities, many successful startups and major medical device and digital health companies – an unmatched critical mass.
